Plum Point was settled in 1898 by the
Coombs and Chambers families. At this time the community was known as Old
Ferrole. Since then, Plum Point has become the main centre where all the
residents of surrounding communities from Castor River South to St. Barbe
come for services.
Plum Point has very close ties to
Old Ferrole Island, known as Darbys Island today. It was used as a
seasonal fishing site by the Basque in the late 1500's. Today the
residents of Plum Point are trying to develop the island as a historic
site for all to enjoy the history of their community.
Plum Point invites people from all parts of the world to come and enjoy rural Newfoundland!
