The
communities of Glenburnie, Birchy Head, and Shoal Brook are on the southern
arm of Bonne Bay. Fishing and subsistence gardening in the area began in the
late 1800's. These early settlers travelled past Port au Choix to St. John
Island and Labrador each year in small boats to take part in the fishery.
The McKenzie Brook Picnic Area in Glenburnie is a day use park that
offers kitchen shelter, picnic areas, and a fishing brook for visitors to
enjoy. There is also a winter carnival that is held each year allowing
residents and tourists to experience the local festivities. Come and see
this area for yourself!.
